Published on 22 Apr 2013 On 20th April 2013, four disabled riders and their support crews set out to scale Cadair Idris in Southern Snowdonia by hand-cycle. The ride was coordinated by 'Challenge your Boundaries' an adaptive MTB project based at the Coed y Brenin Trail centre near Dolgellau. Paralympian Karen Darke's team was the first to summit, taking about 6 hours to make the ascent, with Adrian Disney following on about an hour later. To the best of our knowledge, Karen is the first hand-cyclist to have reached the summit of Cadair, and Adrian is the first to have ridden down. The other riders, Keith Robinson and Paul Robinson both exceeded their personal goals, reaching the 560 contour, and the pillow lava below the summit cone respectively. The ride down was everyones prize for the effort. Big thanks to everyone who contributed to make this a brilliant day. |
Published on 11 Mar 2014 Just a taster of the first descent of the HB@D '14 route north of the Mawddach Estuary in Southern Snowdonia. Not a relaxing ride by any means, with plenty of technical challenge and fine placement required. I cut out the bit where I ended up in a stream-bed, but trust me, it all worked out fine! |
